Meet Our Experienced Team

The Pet Spot is led by an exceptional duo who bring decades of combined experience and genuine passion to pet care. Kari Campbell, our Certified Professional Animal Care Operator and majority owner, has over thirty years in the pet care industry, including eighteen years operating her own successful facility in Alaska. Her expertise spans education, coaching, and nonprofit work, all focused on delivering the highest care quality through compassion and transparency. Alongside her is Alex McCarl, our General Manager and co-owner, whose journey began as a college student seeking a place to care for his own pets and evolved into discovering his true calling. Born and raised in Colorado with a family background in animal rescue—having fostered over 200 dogs—Alex brings local knowledge, professional dedication, and heartfelt care to every interaction. Together, these two Boulder residents have transformed The Pet Spot from a corporate-owned facility to a locally owned business, ensuring your beloved companions receive family-level love and expert attention from people who truly call this community home.

Kari Campbell, a Certified Professional Animal Care Operator, speaker, and pet business expert, has over thirty years’ experience in the pet care industry, eighteen as the founder and operator of Dog Tired K9 Activity Center in Anchorage, Alaska. Her passion is to provide the highest level of care quality for her clients through education, compassion, and transparent communication. She worked with The Dog Gurus for six years as the Head of Programs and Lead Profit Network coach. Kari served on the Professional Animal Care Certification Council Board of Directors for six years, one year as the board chair, and is a co-founder of The Normandy Project, a nonprofit pet food bank in Alaska. Over the past three decades she has shared her expertise on several nonprofit boards.

Kari is excited to return to working directly with pet parents and their companion animals. She looks forward to connecting with Boulder’s pet community and using her extensive experience to support stronger, more rewarding relationships between pet parents and their companion animals.

Alex McCarl

General Manager

Alex McCarl is the General Manager of The Pet Spot and is genuinely enthusiastic about leading the team. He joined the company in October of 2022 while attending CU Boulder and looking for a place where he could work and care for his own puppies at the same time. It quickly became clear to him that this work was his calling, and his time at The Pet Spot has been deeply rewarding.

Alex was born and raised in Evergreen, Colorado in a very pet-centered household. His family cared for a wide range of animals including chickens, ducks, dogs, snails, and many other small creatures, so caring for animals has always come naturally to him. During his high school years, his family fostered more than two hundred dogs, each one eventually finding a loving home. These experiences shaped his commitment to providing thoughtful, sincere, and attentive care to animals of all kinds.



Whether a guest is a dog or a cat, Alex is dedicated to ensuring every pet at The Pet Spot is treated like family. He looks forward to welcoming Boulder’s pet community and continuing to provide the trustworthy, compassionate care pet parents expect.
